Can I convert my open water Humminbird for Ice Fishing?
For most of our product line, yes! In order to make your open water version of a HELIX 5/7/8/9/10 CHIRP Series work for ice fishing, you should update your unit to software version 1.540 or higher. Software updates can be found in the Software Update section of our website.
Next, you will need the XI 9 1521 (CHIRP models) / XI 9 20 (non-CHIRP models), portable ice shuttle, and battery. We have made this convenient by bundling these items in the conversion kits listed below.

Portable Batteries
Two AGM battery options are available and are recommended for all HELIX 5 and 7 models. These will also act as replacements for the ICE PTC XI 9 20 H57 and ICE PTC CHIRP H5 FB kits.
We also have two Lithium battery options available for HELIX G3N and newer models. These feature a longer charge with more flexibility for charging your other small electronics as well. We recommend the 15Ah battery for our HELIX 7 Series and the 20Ah for our larger models.
