Troubleshooting MEGA Live 2 Software Issues
It is Humminbird's recommendation that you always use the most recent version of software available for your model. We update software for various reasons, such as fixing minor bugs, adding new features, or improving functionality of existing features.
MEGA Live 2 won't Connect
- Ensure the connected Humminbird is compatible
- Check for software updates (Humminbird, MEGA Live 2, and TargetLock must be on current software)
- Check for IP Address
- Bypass Ethernet switch and try testing.
- Properly Power Cycle
- Power down the Humminbird connected to the MEGA Live 2 and disconnect the MEGA Live 2 power cable.
- Restore power to the MEGA Live 2 and wait one minute.
- Restore power to the Humminbird unit connected to the MEGA Live 2.
- Wait may take up to 5 minutes for Connection.
- Try power direct to the battery testing
- If connection is intermittent or has recently stopped working, check for damaged wiring or bent/broken pins on power cable and ethernet cable.
- If necessary, replace PC 13 Power Cable
- If necessary, replace Ethernet cable
- Try a different power source
- Connect to a different battery (could indicate a bad battery or one that has too much of a load)
- Connect to a different control head (when possible)
-
Using TargetLock
- Review wiring diagram
- Bypass the TargetLock Control Module
- If MEGA Live connects after bypassing the control module, ensure that the same power cable and source were used at the module. Once confirmed, if a second attempt to power the module fails, it confirms an issue with the module.

Double Images or Returns
The MEGA Live product includes two masks that are 7/8" long. These masks are designed to prevent double returns on your Live Sonar Image. This is especially important in Forward Mode.

"Out of Water" Message
We strongly recommend that you update the software on your MEGA Live 2 to version 2.150 that contains minor performance enhancements.
MEGA Live TargetLock Motor Stopped
This message will appear when the TargetLock cables are bound to the point where the motor can no longer steer correctly. The motor can be turned in the opposite direction manually or with the steering controls to undo this.
- Check to see if the motor can be turned by hand. If the motor will not turn, then the motor will have to be replaced.
- If the Steering Motor is not longer operating it may need to be replaced.
Rust Appearing On MEGA Live 2 Assembly
The MEGA Live (unshielded) wires must be grounded properly as illustrated below to prevent damage to the housing caused by the resulting Electrolysis if not grounded.
