Configuring my Humminbird for AIRMAR Transducers

Humminbird APEX, SOLIX, ONIX and HELIX CHIRP models have built-in settings to adjust for different Humminbird transducers. However, the Start and End frequencies in your Humminbird will need to be manually adjusted to the operational frequency range used by the supported AIRMAR transducer* you are connecting in order to function properly.

AIRMAR Frequency Bands

Traditional and CHIRP-ready AIRMAR transducers are classified into Low, Medium, High or High Wide frequency bands and advertise the Start and End frequency that they operate within.

  • Example: Medium frequency: 95 to 155 kHz

Some transducers advertise to operate in more than one of these frequency bands.

  • Example: Low frequency: 40 to 75 kHz and High frequency: 130 to 210 kHz.

NOTE: Your Humminbird can only be set to one Frequency band at any given time. 

 

Configuring your Humminbird

HELIX CHIRP Models

Adjust Connected Transducer

  1. Take note of the Frequency band of the transducer you intend to use: High Wide, High, Medium, or Low.
  2. Change the "Connected Transducer" Sonar menu setting to reflect the Frequency band.
    1. Press Menu twice to open the Main Menu, use the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to highlight Sonar, and then use the DOWN or UP Cursor keys to highlight the Connected Transducer menu option.
    2. Use the LEFT and RIGHT Cursor keys to select the appropriate Frequency band for your AIRMAR transducer.

      • Use the following table to make the appropriate selection.
AIRMAR HELIX CHIRP
Low AIRMAR/Generic Low Frequency
Medium AIRMAR/Generic Medium Frequency
High AIRMAR/Generic High Frequency
High Wide High Wide CHIRP

CHIRP Configuration

Once the Connected Transducer setting has been set, the Start and End frequency in the CHIRP Configuration menu setting must be changed to reflect the Start and End frequency of the AIRMAR transducer in use.

  1. Change user Mode to "Custom"
    1. Press Menu twice to open the Main Menu
    2. Use the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to highlight Setup
    3. Use the DOWN Cursor key to highlight User Mode
    4. Use the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor key to select Custom.

  2. Adjust Start and End Frequencies
    1. Staying in the Setup menu, use the UP and DOWN Cursor keys to highlight CHIRP Configuration

    2. Press the RIGHT Cursor key.
    3. Use the UP or DOWN Cursor key to highlight 2D CHIRP Frequency Spectrum

    4. Press the RIGHT cursor key.
    5. Using the LEFT, RIGHT, UP and DOWN Cursor keys, adjust the Full Start Frequency and Full End Frequency to reflect the Start and End frequency advertised with your AIRMAR transducer.

    6. When adjustments are finished, press the EXIT button three times to exit the Main Menu.

 

SOLIX G3 and APEX

APEX and SOLIX G3 models are able to detect and auto-configure for AIRMAR transducers. In the event the unit does not properly detect your AIRMAR transducer, follow the steps below. 

 

ONIX, SOLIX G1 and G2

Adjust 2D Frequency Capability

  1. Take note of the Frequency band of the transducer you intend to use: High Wide, High, Medium, or Low.
  2. Press the HOME key
  3. Select Settings 
  4. SOLIX and APEX units: select CHIRP Sonar, ONIX units: select Sonar
  5. Select Sonar Source

  6. Select Initial setup
    • If the initial setup has been completed prior, select the menu icon shown below:
  7. Turn off Auto-Configure
  8. Check mark the box next to 2D Sonar if box is blank
  9. Select 2D Frequency Capability

  10. Select the 2D Frequency capability that matches the AIRMAR transducer in use.

    • Use the following table to make the proper selection

Note: Although some AIRMAR transducers are capable of multiple Frequency Bands, only one can be in use at any given time.

Start and End Frequency Configuration

  1. Press the HOME key
  2. Select Settings
  3. SOLIX and APEX units: select CHIRP Sonar, ONIX units: select Sonar
  4. Select Frequency Spectrum

    • Frequency Spectrum will be preceded by Low, Medium, High, or Full depending on the selection in the previous section.
  5. Use the on-screen sliders or the dial knob to adjust Start Frequency and End Frequency to match the frequency range advertised with your AIRMAR transducer.
