A depth value showing up within a contoured area but it is not on the contour line itself, is a Spot Soundings reading while Spot Soundings is turned to ON. Spot Soundings have no Depth Highlight functionality and they are not built into the chart's cartography. They are essentially a picture of a number on top of the chart. Spot Soundings will always appear as numbers that are upright. The Contour Depth could at an angle. Contour Depth is also bolder than Spot Soundings
