Coordinates are Off or do not Match the Location on Your GPS

Contour Elite

If you find that a fishing log waypoint location does not match the waypoint location on your GPS, please check the following:

1. If you manually entered the coordinates into the fishing log, make sure you entered them correctly.

2. If you manually entered the coordinates into the fishing log, make sure the coordinates were in degrees, decimal minute format. Your GPS unit needs to be set to degrees, decimal minute format for you to be able to enter the correct coordinate information into Contour Elite. For example, if your GPS unit is set to decimal degrees or degrees/minutes/seconds and you try to enter coordinates based on this coordinate system into Contour Elite, the locations will be off because Contour Elite's fishing can only handle degree, decimal minute format.

3. Make sure your GPS unit's datum is set to WGS84 or NAD83. Contour Elite uses WGS84 for the datum which is essentially identical to NAD83. If your unit's datum is set to another datum, such as NAD27, your location may be off several hundred feet. This applies to coordinates manually entered into Contour Elite or imported/exported to/from Contour Elite.

Please refer to your GPS manual or manufacturer's website for instructions on changing the coordinate system and datum.
