The Position Format that the Humminbird is set to is especially important when manually importing Navigation data such as waypoints. If the Position Format the Humminbird is set to does not match the format of the coordinates being entered, then the waypoint can be several miles away from the intended position.
The Position Format on your Humminbird unit changes the way your GPS coordinates are displayed using one of three different formats.
APEX, SOLIX and ONIX units display these formats as seen below:
- ddd°mm'ss.s" - Degrees Minutes Seconds
- ddd°mm.mmm' - Decimal Minutes
- ddd.ddddd° - Decimal Degrees
HELIX and Legacy models will have the above formats displayed with a slight difference seen below:
- dd°mm'ss"
- dd°mm.mmm'
- dd.ddddd°
- Special Note using Degrees Minutes Seconds: If the coordinate is N 031°50'39.6", then HELIX and Legacy models would have it entered as N 31°50'40".
- The last digit is used to round up or down to fit the number of digits allowed.
