How to Disconnect and Remove the MEGA Live TargetLock Control Box and Shaft Assembly

If you're servicing or relocating your MEGA Live TargetLock system, you may need to remove the control box and shaft assembly. Follow these steps to safely disconnect and remove both components.


Tools You’ll Need:

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Hex bits
  • 5/32" Allen wrench
  • 9/64" Allen wrench
  • 1/2" wrench or socket
  • 3/8" wrench or socket
  • Zip tie cutter (if applicable)
  • Protective gloves (optional)

Removing the Control Box

  1. Power Down the System
    Disconnect the trolling motor from power to ensure safety during removal.
  2. Disconnect the Ethernet and Power Cables
    • Locate the Ethernet and power cables connected to the control box.
    • Gently unplug both cables. If zip ties are securing them, carefully cut them.
  3. Remove the Control Box from the Mount
    • Using a 9/64" Allen wrench, remove the screws securing the control box to the mounting bracket.

    • Lift the control box away from the bracket.
  4. Inspect, Label and Store
    • Inspect the Control Box and mounting plate for any wear or damage.
    • Label the cables for easy reinstallation.
    • Store the control box in a dry, safe place.

Removing the Shaft Assembly

  1. Power Down the System
    Disconnect the trolling motor from power to ensure safety during removal.
  2. Disconnect the Ethernet and Power Cables
    1. Locate and disconnect the Ethernet, power and Heading Sensor cables connected to the control box.

    2. Disconnect the Heading Sensor cable.
  3. Remove the Heading Collar Mount
    • Loosen the screw using the included hex key holding the collar and mount to the shaft.

  4. Uninstall The MEGA Live Transducer
    • Using the 9/64" Allen wrench, remove the screws from the cable cover.

    • Gently pull the MEGA Live cable out of the TargetLock shaft.

    • Remove the 1/4-28 Screw using a hex bit and lock washer holding the MEGA Live Landscape mount to the TargetLock shaft.

  5. Remove the TargetLock Steering Assembly
    • Loosen the depth collars.

    • Use a 1/2"socket wrench to loosen the bolts on the mounting plate.

  6. Inspect, Label and Store
    • Inspect the shaft for any wear or damage.
    • Label the cables for easy reinstallation.
    • Coil the cable neatly and store the shaft assembly in a secure location.

Final Tips

  • Take photos before disassembly to help with reinstallation.
  • Keep all screws and hardware in a labeled bag.
