Depth Highlight Displaying Does Not Match Settings Selected

This article clarifies why your Humminbird unit may show mapping that differs from what you anticipate, based on the Depth Highlight setting you’ve selected.

Why Does My Map Not Match Depth Highlight Settings Selected?

We understand how it can be confusing when your selected Depth Highlight doesn’t appear as expected on the map. When zooming out, the map simplifies by displaying fewer contour lines to reduce visual clutter. In these cases, the system highlights the nearest available contour to your selected depth. This approach, used across mapping systems, helps maintain map readability at broader zoom level, especially in areas with standard-definition (SD) contours.

  • Example: If you've set a 5-foot Depth Highlight on your Humminbird unit, but your current zoom level only shows the 10-foot contour line, the system will highlight the 10-foot contour instead. This ensures visibility and maintains accurate representation based on available data at that zoom level.
  • For the most accurate depth highlighting, we recommend zooming in closer to your area of interest.
