Proper Maintenance for Your Humminbird Unit

Your Humminbird fish finder is built for long-lasting, trouble-free performance with minimal upkeep. However, a few simple maintenance practices can help ensure optimal operation and extend the life of your unit.

Temperature Guidelines

  • Operating Range: -20°C to 70°C (-4°F to 158°F)
  • Storage Range: -30°C to 85°C (-22°F to 185°F)

⚠️ Note: Battery temperature limits may differ. Always refer to your battery manufacturer for safe operating and storage temperatures.

Never leave your unit in a closed vehicle or trunk during hot weather. Extreme heat can damage internal electronics.

Cleaning the Display

  • Use warm, mild soapy water (e.g., non-abrasive hand soap or Dawn dish soap).
  • Gently dry and clean the surface using a clean microfiber cloth.
  • For water spots, use a water and vinegar solution* (about 2% Vinegar by volume).
    • Use distilled water for best results.
    • Using 6% cleaning grade vinegar: mix 1 part vinegar to 2 parts distilled water.
    • Using 5% white/distilled vinegar: mix 1 part vinegar to 1.5 parts distilled water.
  • Avoid commercial glass cleaners—they can damage the screen’s special coatings.
  • Do not wipe the screen if dirt or grease is present, as this may scratch the surface.
  • Never spray wash the unit or run it through a car wash.

🛑 Sunscreen, bug spray, and other chemicals can permanently damage the lens coatings. This type of damage is not covered under warranty.

Saltwater Exposure

  • If exposed to salt spray, gently wipe surfaces with a microfiber cloth dampened in fresh water.

Transducer Care

  • Clean the transducer face periodically with liquid detergent to remove algae and marine growth.
    • Pivot the transducer up in its bracket for easier access.
  • After long dry storage, air bubbles may cling to the transducer when re-submerged. These can interfere with performance but will dissipate over time—or can be wiped away manually.

Screen Protectors

  • Third-party screen protectors can be used, but:
    • They are not covered under Humminbird’s warranty.
    • Humminbird does not reimburse for replacements if the head unit or display needs servicing.
