Corrupt navigation data—such as a faulty waypoint, track, or route—can lead to a range of issues with your Humminbird system, including problems with navigation accuracy and network connectivity. If you suspect corrupt data on your HELIX or Legacy model (such as the 1100, 900, or 800 series), follow the steps below to identify and remove the problematic entries and restore proper functionality.
HumminbirdPC, mentioned below, is NOT intended for use with the APEX, XPLORE, SOLIX or ONIX series.
Step-by-Step: Clean Corrupt Nav Data
- Export Nav Data from the Humminbird Unit
- Insert an SD or microSD card into your Humminbird unit.
- Go to the Nav Data menu.
- Choose Export All Nav Data to save waypoints, routes, and tracks to the card.
- Use HumminbirdPC on Your Computer
- Insert the SD card into your computer.
- Open HumminbirdPC (download it from Humminbird's website).
- Click the blue down arrow to import the nav data from the card.
- Inspect and Clean the Data
- Expand the imported file and check:
- Waypoint names: Must be valid (no special characters, max 11 characters).
- Coordinates: Look for invalid entries like N00.00.01 W000.00.000.
- Tracks: No track should exceed 20,000 points.
- Routes: Ensure the number of routes is within system limits.
- Expand the imported file and check:
- Save Cleaned Data
- After cleaning, click the green up arrow to export the corrected data back to the SD card.
- Choose Replace when prompted.
- Format Nav Directories on Humminbird
- Power on your Humminbird unit.
- Navigate to the Setup Menu Tab
- Ensure User Mode is set to Custom
- Within the Setup Menu, select Format Nav Directories to clear all existing nav data.
- Re-import Clean Data
- Insert the SD card back into the Humminbird.
- Import the cleaned nav data.
Before reinserting the SD card into your Humminbird unit, make sure to clear any existing navigation data to prevent conflicts. With the unit powered on, navigate to the Setup menu tab, scroll down, and select Format Nav Directories. This action will erase all currently stored waypoints, routes, and tracks from the system.
Once the directories are formatted, you can safely insert the SD card and import the refreshed navigation data you previously saved.
